French rugby union club Racing 92 have suspended Italian-Argentine Martin Castrogiovanni for lying about his whereabouts while they investigate images of him partying in Las Vegas last weekend.

Castrogiovanni, 34, reportedly told his Paris based club he could not play in their Champions Cup semi-final win over Leicester Tigers last weekend due to family issues in far away Argentina. However, he was then pictured hanging out with Ligue 1 champions, PSG, in Las Vegas' Encore hotel pool party.

Racing say the suspension is a 'precautionary measure prior to launching legal proceedings'.

A club statement read: 'Following the publication in the media of photographs showing Martin Castrogiovanni with Paris Saint-Germain footballers this weekend at a hotel in Las Vegas, while the entire Racing squad was in Nottingham to contest a European Cup semi-final, Racing 92 have decided to suspend the player as a precautionary measure prior to launching legal proceedings.'

Racing beat Leicester 19-16 to reach the final which they will contest with Saracens on May 14 in Lyon.

Other PSG players at the party were Marco Verratti, Javier Pastore and Salvatore Sirigu. Manager Laurent Blanc had given his players some time off after they wrapped up the Ligue 1 title early this season and are currently 27 points clear at the top with four games remaining.
