The event took place on Sunday night, and unlike last year when it was the lot of Chelsea at center stage, this time, it was league toppers and biggest revelation of the season, Leicester. While the PFA team of the year was somehow leaked on Friday, forcing the FA to officially announce it, it was not until the final moment on Sunday that it was revealed that Riyad Mahrez had pipped his teammate Jamie Vardy to the ultimate award.

Despite all the criticism he has faced in his career, the Super Eagles captain has won more Premier League titles (2) than the number of goals he has scored in the competition (1) during his 10-year stay in England as a Chelsea player. Even great Stevie G can't compete with his domestic trophy cabinet. In the summer he would have completed 10 years at Chelsea and will be due for a testimonial from the club.
