Southampton confirm Claude Puel appointment as new manager on three-year deal

Southampton have confirmed Claude Puel as their new manager. The Frenchman takes over at St. Mary's on a three-year deal following Ronald Koeman's departure to Everton a little over two weeks ago. Puel arrives on the South Coast with great pedigree in Ligue 1, after leaving Nice earlier this summer. He led Monaco to the title in 2000, and also took Lyon to a first-ever Champions League semi-final in 2010. He faces a rebuilding task at St. Mary's after the recent sales of Victor Wanyama and Sadio Mane. Eric Black, who had been at Aston Villa last term, comes in as his assistant.

I can't agree any less...twas as boring as a game can ever be. Despite being second best on the night, Portugal progressed at the end of the day through a 117th minute goal by Ricardo Quaresma. Portugal have now won all 4 of their encounters with Croatia, scoring 7 times and conceding none.

They have now improved a step further on their other appearance in a major tournament which was in the 1958 world cup, 58 years ago. They were knocked out then by eventual winners Brazil.
