Congratulations to Chelsea Academy for winning a consecutive UEFA Youth League!!! (Unfortunately, they are not good enough...still)

They say the latter shall be greater than the former. That saying has clearly been demonstrated at Chelsea Football Club this season.
Unlike the older players who for the second consecutive season, got knocked out of the senior version of the competition by PSG, their academy side overcame their PSG counterparts on Monday evening to retain the UEFA Youth League title - the equivalent of the Champions league in that category.

The competition is for all under age players registered to the 32 senior clubs that qualify for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.

Kasey Palmer scored Chelsea’s match-winner in Nyon as they won 2:1 after a keenly-fought contest with Parisians and became the first to win the tournament consecutively since its introduction in 2013.
In their age group, the youngster is known more for scoring rockets and screamers, but this, probably the most important of them all was a little more simple. His shot just had enough power on it to spin past goalkeeper Remy Descamps and cross the line, and definitely enough to lift the trophy and confirm the Blues’ academy as Europe’s premier academy.

As expected, it was a nerve wrecking encounter especially during the closing stages that almost forced the game into extra-time until Palmer's goal in the 61st minute to restore his side's lead. In the 58th minute, Yakou Meite had cancelled out Fikayo Tomori’s 10th minute opener and they held on till the final whistle.

Ironically and despite their academy successes, Chelsea have failed to graduate a first team regular from their set-up with John Terry who was watching from the stands the most recent graduant at the Stamford Bridge club 18 years ago. He made his debut aged 17 versus Aston Villa, in October, 1998.

Congratulations to the lads who are also current holders of the FA Youth cup after winning it in succession in 2014 and 2015 and their coach Adi Viveash. Will they ever achieve their dream of breaking into the first team and becoming regulars and backbones of the club like John Terry???
