Real Madrid inserted 'anti-Barcelona' clause into Angel di Maria's Manchester United contract

Real Madrid were so determined to ensure their star player Angel di Maria does not wound up in Barcelona colours anytime in the near future that they inserted a clause in his Manchester United contract that would see their heart's desire come true.
Football Leaks has published the documents relating to Di Maria's move to Old Trafford in August 2014 and according to the paperwork, United would have to pay Real €50million if they sold Di Maria to Barcelona before the end of the summer transfer window in 2015.

There was also a penalty of €40million imposed on United if they decided to sell Di Maria to the Catalans before the end of the summer 2016 transfer window, and one of €30million if Di Maria was sold to Barca before the end of his United contract.
The penalties even applied if United sold him to a non-Spanish rival, who then in turn transferred Di Maria to a Spanish club other than Real Madrid.

The detailed and strict clauses underline the depth of hostility between Real and Barcelona, and give a taste of the obstacles placed on major transfers between two of the world's biggest football clubs.
The contract confirms that the transfer fee came to €75million, payable in three equal instalments: one within 10 days of the contract being signed, another on or before Aug 5, 2015, and a third on or before Aug 5, 2016.

Additional payments of €1million would be made to Real every time United qualified for the Champions League group stage, together with a payment of €5million if Di Maria was nominated in the top three of the Fifa Ballon d'Or.
Di Maria was sold to Paris Saint-Germain for £44,4million in the summer of 2015 after a disastrous spell at Old Trafford that included a public fall-out with manager Louis van Gaal.
