Former Juventus coach agrees deal in principle to become next Chelsea manager

Barclays Premier League champions Chelsea have agreed a 'deal in principle' for Italy boss Antonio Conte to become their next manager from 2016/17 season.

According to today's news in Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, a deal had been struck between Conte and Chelsea, and that Roman Abramovich will make the final call on whether he gets the job at the end of the season when the current interim manager Guus Hiddink's contract expires.

Conte's contract with the Italian national team which he took up after quitting Juventus in 2015 expires at the end of Euro 2016 and the 46-year-old wants to return to club management, He was linked to the Manchester United job in 2014 before taking up the national Azzurri job.

He is expected to meet with the FIGC – the Italian football federation – in March to confirm that he wants to leave after this summer's tournament in France.
He is also set to hold further talks with the London club in the same month ahead of Italy’s friendlies with Spain and Germany.

Chelsea and FIGC declined to make a comment when contacted.
