Chelsea looking to offer Mikel Obi a contract extention

John Obi Mikel's resurgence under Guus Hiddink may have won him the hearts of the powers-that-be at Chelsea. Hiddink's return has seen the 29-year-old enjoy more playing time after suffering with very few minutes under Jose Mourinho. His resurgence has been so good that the club are understood to now be considering offering him a new deal.

The Nigerian hardly had a look in under the former Boss who preferred Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic as regular partners in his defensive midfield but the table seems to have turned with Mikel now one of the first names on the teamsheet for key games.

Mikel joined Chelsea from Lyn Oslo in controversial circumstances and would have spent 10 years at the club by the end of this summer when he would be due for a testimonial. He has 15 months left to run on his current deal.
The midfielder was the architect of a rare sight when he scored what could potentially be a vital away goal in their 2-1 defeat by Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday in the first leg of the two sides’ Champions League last-16 clash.
