Oh finally, England will be represented in the Champions League final since recent memory!

Since Chelsea's 2012 Champions League final appearance England have found it increasingly difficult to make it to the UEFA Champions League final pitch until now...
Ok, its not really as you think though...

The Premier League's best referee since the retirement of Howard Webb, Mark Clattenburg, has been confirmed as the referee for the UEFA Champions League final ahead of a series of his colleagues from across Europe for the much anticipated repeat derby final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

Clattenburg took charge of the semi-final first-leg between Atletico and Bayern Munich which the Spaniards won 1-0. He has now been given the nod for the clash at AC Milan's San Siro stadium on May 28.

The job will continues a great few weeks for the 41-year-old who will also be the man in the middle for the FA Cup final between Manchester United and Crystal Palace on May 21.

He leads an English team of officials for the clash between the Madrid rivals, with Anthony Taylor and Andre Marriner the additional assistants.

Clattenburg will also be at Euro 2016 with fellow Premier League referee Martin Atkinson.

The news comes just a week after he officiated the ugly clash between Chelsea and Tottenham at Stamford Bridge. A game in which 12 yellow cards were dished out - 9 of those to Tottenham, it was followed up with a retrospective ban that was handed out to Spurs' Dembele for an incident not spotted by the ref.

He was wildly criticised for failing to manage the game by send anyone off anyone.

In Europe's scond tier club competition, Jonas Eriksson has been named the referee for Liverpool's Europa League final with Sevilla in Basel next Wednesday.

The Swede is also set to be at Euro 2016 and has been in charge of five Champions League matches this season.

The 42-year-old has been an international referee since 2002. He officiated the 2013 UEFA Super Cup between Chelsea and Bayern München, and was in Brazil for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Last year he was fourth official for the UEFA Champions League final in Berlin, where Barcelona defeated Juventus.
