Arsene Wenger travels back to his roots in Alsace to open new stadium named after him


Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger has returned to his native region of Alsace in France to open a new stadium that has been named in honour of him.

Wenger who led the Gunners to end the season in second place -their best position since the 2004/05 season - was present at the launching of the stadium named 'Stade de Arsene Wenger'. He posed for pictures at the new ground which is in the south-west of Strasbourg, the city in which the Frenchman was born.

Around 600 people in attendance, while a plaque was also dedicated to the Gunners manager.
Wenger said: “It’s an honour. I am a little surprised.  When I was a kid, I did not think that I would become the coach of a big club.”
