Manchester United to lose over £30million in TV revenue if they fail to seal a Champions League spot

The Old Trafford club will lose well over £30million in broadcast revenue if their hundreds of thousands of pounds earning stars fails to qualify the club for next season's Champions League tournament, it has been revealed.

Louis Van Gaal's side currently sit fifth in the Premier League ahead of the final round of league games this Sunday, two points adrift of rivals Manchester City.

However, after loosing to West Ham during the week their Blue city rivals' far superior goal difference means they only need a point at Swansea to secure fourth spot, while United must rely on the Welsh side causing an upset, and ensure they see off Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward confirmed the potential loss in a call to investors on Friday as United announced their financial results for the third quarter.

It was also revealed that there will be a 30 per cent cut in the Adidas deal if this happen for two seasons in a row. And this reduction would be spread over the life of the deal.

Woodward made no mention of under-fire manager Louis van Gaal in a statement, following the announcement of the results which keep United on track to be England's first half-billion-pound club.
