Lionel Messi breaks yet another record to knock Gabriel Batistuta off the top

Lionel Messi has become Argentina's all-time top goalscorer, surpassing Gabriel Batistuta's record with a sumptuous free-kick goal during a total demolition of host nation the USA, that started after only just 3 minutes into the game.

The Albiceleste star curled in a barely-credible set-piece effort to double Argentina's lead and send them to a second Copa America final in 12 months. The striker netted his 55th goal, overtaking Batistuta's record of 54 goals in 78 appearances.

Lavezzi broke the deadlock before Messi's wonderful goal, after-which, Higuain scored a brace to complete the romp. Lavezzi's goal below...

Gerardo Martino's men are now overwhelming favourites for the crown, but the glory belongs to the incredible Messi, who is now the top goalscorer in the history of La Liga, Barcelona, Clásicos and the Argentine national team.

After losing both a World Cup final and a Copa America final in the last two summers, Messi and his teammates will be hoping it won't happen a third time and to ensure that, they won't be taking anything for granted.
