Football fan collapses and dies in stands at Euro 2016 match

Northern Ireland fan, Robert Rainey, has collapsed and died during his country's EURO game against Ukraine. The game ended two-nil to Northern Ireland. Rainey who was from Belfast was 64 and his family say he died doing what he loved.
Rainey, known to family and friends as Archie, became unwell around 45 minutes into the game but went ahead to the match.

Northern Ireland fans who witnessed the 64-year-old's collapse went to his aid, calling for medical help while doing the best they could. While a call for medical help was made, a number of fans gave CPR to Mr Rainey whose heart had stopped, and managed to put him in the recovery position in the stand.

Shortly afterwards, GAWA member Mark Gourley said everything had been done to try to save Mr Rainey.

Mr Gourley said: "To the family and friends of the Northern Ireland fan who sadly lost his life tonight in Lyon, I was sitting two seats away and trust me us Northern Ireland fans did all we could to bring him back until the medics came.

"We gave him CPR, put him in the recovery position and made him comfortable.
"Northern Ireland scored not long after and I believe he was looking down on them cheering like the rest of us. My heart goes out to everyone who knows him."

Mr Rainey is the second Northern Ireland fan to died at the Euro 2016.

Darren Rodgers, 24, from Ballymena, suffered a fatal eight metre fall in the early hours of Monday morning.
