Relief as Manchester United finally release Victor Valdes and Nick Powell

Former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes has finally regained his freedom after being released by Manchester United.

Valdes who signed on a Bosman transer in January 2015 as back-up to David de Gea, made just two appearances for United's first team 13 months ago. He was then demoted to the youth team after falling out with manager Louis van Gaal during which time he posted some sad messages on social media. He was later farmed out to Belgian side Standard Liege on loan in January this year.

Midfielder Nick Powell who was signed by Sir Alex Ferguson in 2012 has also been released by Manchester United. Powell scored on his senior debut after joining from Crewe. He played a total of 10 matches with the last two of those coming in December before going to Hull on loan in February where he managed just five substitute appearances.

Another goalkeeper, George Dorrington, and midfielder Oliver Rathbone, have also been released by the club as new boss Jose Mourinho continues to give the side a new look, one that has a look of his typical team.
